K-W A Vibrant And Diverse Area
The Waterloo Region in southern Ontario is one of the fastest growing and most economically stable districts in Canada. Kitchener is the largest city in Waterloo Region and where the Regional Municipal government is headquartered. In the 2006 census the population of Kitchener was 204,6682. The City of Waterloo situated beside Kitchener has a population of just under 100,000. Waterloo also has more than 20,000 seasonal college and university students registered at its two universities. The two cities actually abut each other and together are often called Kitchener-Waterloo or K-W.
The city of Cambridge is located in the southern part of the region and has a population of just over 120,000. Cambridge came into existence in 1973 with the merging of the towns of Galt, Preston, Hespeler and Blair. Many local people felt the merger was a "shotgun marriage" forced on them by the Ontario provincial government.
Today The Waterloo area is among the most dynamic and fastest growing regions of Canada because it has some of the best farm land in Canada, two highly regarded Universities, a strong financial industry, numerous manufacturing plants and a burgeoning high tech sector anchored in enterprises like Research in Motion and numerous spinoff businesses from the region's two univeristies.
People moving into the Region will find many varied job opportunities, an exciting and varied cultural life, and schools that are second to none. K-W real estate is also quite a bit cheaper than similar homes in other major cities such as Toronto.
Indeed, people living in Waterloo Region have an enviable combination. They have the more friendly and pleasant atmosphere found in a smaller urban area along with the considerable amenities of major urban centres such as Toronto, Mississauga, London and Detroit.
